Kirsten Bannister, of Kirsten Bannister Interiors, on how up-cycling furniture can add the wow factor to any room…
Hampshire based Interior Designer and Event Stylist Kirsten Bannister should be on your radar! Based between her newly designed home office and the design studio of Conny @Cornelia Collections, she offers a complete design service – including full project management – and is now excited to offer clients a bespoke upholstering option too.
We met Kirsten at her home office based on the edge of the New Forest, where she is currently project managing her own home renovation project, with the kitchen being the current area of total refurbishment. Her designs illustrate her natural design flair and love for large open spaces. She clearly aims to make the most of floor area and incorporate bespokely designed space saver ideas mixed with ample seating areas. More recently she completed a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area design in the prestige area of Canford Cliffs, Poole.
“I am extremely passionate about my work and find every new project exciting and never the same. I love walking into a new project and visualising what it will become, I see every space is a blank canvas that becomes a piece of art. Each client has their own passions and ideas that I try to incorporate into the design, helping them create something that they can be proud of and feel part of.”
During lockdown, Kirsten found a new passion for upcycling and making fantastic pieces of outdoor furniture. Whilst doing this she began to collaborate with Cornelia Collections, another Dorset based designer.
“Although I provide interior designs, that is just a small part of what I can offer. I
provide a fully comprehensive design and fulfilment service which can include the sourcing and implementation of layout planning, décor, fixtures and fittings and now high quality unique indoor and outdoor furnishings.”
She has recognised that there is a rapidly increasing demand from her clients for unique and individual furniture pieces. “For added interest, I like to create contrast in a room – simply add accent furniture.”
“Conny and I are able to offer my clients a special, unique piece of furniture that no one else will have. Each piece already has the romantic element of history, which is then enriched and an added value, not just financially, but also visually and emotionally. The furniture is sourced from all over the UK, dating from the more classical periods through to the modernist eras. We then source the highest quality fabrics from a range of independent, specialist suppliers. It’s a fantastic feeling watching a clients new design come to life and then to make it feel more individual by placing an old yet beautifully restored chair within it.”
